UP Polls | BJP Govt Needed To Ensure Jaunpur Is ‘Mafia-Free’: PM Modi Ups Ante Against SP

Prime Minister Modi called the previous Samajwadi Party government “mafiawadi” (those who help mafia elements).

Jaunpur: Upping the ante against the Samajwadi Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is needed in Uttar Pradesh to ensure Jaunpur is “mafia-free”.

Prime Minister Modi called the previous Samajwadi Party government “mafiawadi” (those who help mafia elements).

“Pariwarwadis’ (dynasts) can never fulfill the dreams of the poor,” said Prime Minister Modi addressing an election meeting in Jaunpur, PTI reported.

“The way these ‘mafiawadis’ run the government is to loot Uttar Pradesh and crush the dreams of the poor. They never see your pain, your trouble,” he added.

Referring to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Prime Minister Modi said that he used to send letters to the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister from Delhi telling him time and again that the “Indian government is giving money and you can build houses for the poor”.

“But they didn't care about the life of the poor,” he alleged.

Continuing his outburst, Prime Minister Modi said: “They had only one job to do -- fill their vault from wherever they got chance.”

“They knew that Modi will ask for the account of money he is sending from Delhi and they will be caught. So, they did not worry about the poor,” he added.

Stating that only one house was sanctioned in Jaunpur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana when Yadav was in power in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi said that 30,000 houses were sanctioned here when the BJP government came in 2017, adding 15,000 of them have already been completed.

Prime Minister Modi also cornered the Samajwadi Party while referring to encephalitis, a deadly disease that used to spread in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.

Alleging the dynasts left the Purvanchal to suffer the havoc of encephalitis, he said: “But now a network of medical colleges is being created there.”

Prime Minister Modi said the government taken a very big decision to reduce the fees for half of the seats in private medical colleges to bring them at par with the government medical colleges.

Prime Minister Modi further said the BJP’s victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections is necessary to ensure the state’s journey on the path of development does not stop.

“We have to ensure that the victory of the BJP is as grand as it was in 2017,” he added.

Voting for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly is being held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in 57 assembly seats across 10 districts in Uttar Pradesh for the sixth phase of the assembly elections. The final phase of voting will be held on March 7.

The counting of votes will be held on March 10.
