UP Nikay Chunav 2023 LIVE: Hello and welcome to ABP Live. Follow ABP Live's blog to get the breaking news, latest updates, and other developing stories pertaining to the upcoming civic elections in 37 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The political ground for the civic polls is already heated up in the state, with SP, BSP, Congress, and BJP campaigning in full swing. The election campaign for the first phase of the civic polls is set to end on Tuesday with polling scheduled to take place on May 4.

According to political experts, these elections are being considered the semi-final of the Lok Sabha election slated to be held next year. Considering that, none of the parties would want to leave any stone unturned to attain maximum seats.

The daily monitoring of political parties depicts that the parties are not taking steps in haste in order to decide on the candidates. It is evident that tickets are being granted to winning candidates only.

In the political fest of the state which has the highest number of constituencies in the country, all efforts are being to woo the voters.

According to an opinion poll conducted by C-Voter for ABP News, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to win the civic body elections.

According to the C Voter survey, the ruling BJP is expected to secure 45 percent of the vote, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) is seen as posing a challenge to the ruling party with 31 percent of the vote share. Mayawati's BSP is expected to gain 8 per cent, Congress 7 per cent and others to outperform both parties by securing 9 per cent of the vote share.

A total of 17 municipal corporations, 199 municipal councils, and 439 nagar panchayats will elect their new representatives. As many as 1,420 corporator seats, 5,327 nagar palika parishad member seats, 544 nagar panchayat chairperson seats, and 7,178 nagar panchayat member seats will be up for grabs. A total of 14,684 posts in the state will be contested.

The Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nikay Chunav will take place in two phases, on May 4 and May 11. The votes will be counted on May 13, and the results will be announced the same day.

The political landscape of Uttar Pradesh has recently witnessed several new trends, with SP and RLD forming an alliance and the BJP not lagging behind in granting tickets to Muslim candidates. The BSP, on the other hand, is heavily reliant on the Dalit-Muslim equation.
