UP Municipal Election Results 2023: Yogi Government was successful in securing all 17 Mayoral seats.

UP Municipal Election Results 2023: In a significant boost for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's administration, the Bharatiya Janata Party dominated the urban local body polls in Uttar Pradesh, claiming victory in all 17 municipal corporations' mayoral seats, as well as 90 municipality chairman positions and more than 600 wards.

Addressing the media, CM Adityanath stated: "In 2017, BJP won 60 seats but this year we've won more than double the seats in urban local body polls," ANI reported.

"Our ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) won both the Suar and Chanbe by-polls and defeated the Samajwadi Party. I thank the voters for giving us the opportunity in the urban local body elections and by-elections. I want to assure the people that the UP government will continue to work for their development and security," he added.

Key Points: 

  1. BJP candidates emerged victorious in both Meerut and Aligarh, which were previously lost by the party in the past municipal elections.
  2. Moreover, Shajahanpur held its inaugural municipal corporation election this year, resulting in BJP's Archana Verma becoming the first-ever mayor of the city.
  3. During his extensive campaign, Chief Minister Yogi emphatically urged the public to vote for BJP candidates in order to bolster the double-engine government in the state with a third engine. This is an interesting point to take note of.
  4. Of the 17 individuals who ran for mayor under the BJP, 14 were new to the political arena. The party chose to support the former mayors of Kanpur, Bareilly, and Moradabad.
  5. Yogi Government was successful in securing all 17 Mayoral seats.
  6. Four candidates from the BJP party were able to attain the impressive feat of being re-elected as mayors for a second term. Pramila Pandey, Vinod Agarwal, and Umesh Gautam Anwarat were re-elected as mayors of Kanpur, Moradabad, and Bareilly, respectively, while Harikant Ahluwalia previously served as mayor of Meerut.
  7. Bihari Lal of BJP emerged as the pioneer to claim victory in Jhansi. In total, he accumulated 123503 votes.
  8. For the municipal elections, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a significant number of 50 rallies to support the candidates of the BJP.
  9. The Chief Minister held public meetings in 10 municipal corporation areas falling under 9 divisions.
  10. During the initial stage, Yogi Adityanath conducted a combined total of 28 public gatherings, comprising of a conference and rally, across multiple locations such as Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
