Union Minister Smiriti Irani alleged her political rival Rahul Gandhi of capturing booths and forcing voters to cast their vote for the Congress. She retweeted a video of an old woman who claimed that she was forced by Congress to cast vote in their favour. She claimed that an official forcibly out her finger on the Congress button. The BJP’s candidate from Amethi wrote on Twitter: "Alert @ECISVEEP Congress President @RahulGandhi ensuring booth capturing.” Talking to mediapersons, she said "I tweeted an alert to administration and Election Commission (alleging booth capturing in Amethi), hope they take action”. "People of the country have to decide whether this kind of politics of Rahul Gandhi should be punished or not." She told reporters that Rahul Gandhi was now resorting to stealing votes. "They said that 'chowkidar chor hai', but they are the ones who are stealing votes. Rahul Gandhi will have to answer for such acts and the administration must look into the matter," she said. There is no written complaint on the matter. Her supporters said that they would soon lodge a formal complaint with the returning officer in this regard. Amethi is one of the 51 constituencies in seven states that is voting in the fifth round of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections Irani is the BJP candidate in Amethi and is contesting against Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The two are locked in a fierce battle. Irani unsuccessfully contested the elections in 2014 against the Gandhi scion who is seeking a re-election .
