'They Should Declare Their Leader': Anurag Thakur Ahead Of Opposition's Mega Meet To Unite Against BJP

Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday mocked opposition parties efforts to form a coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday lashed out at the opposition parties, mocking their efforts to form a coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and stated that the alliance should not be of parties sunk neck-deep in corruption, news agency ANI reported. "Those opposition parties that are going to Bihar must ask Nitish Kumar about the corruption that is going on there...this shouldn't be an alliance of corrupted parties. They should also say who is the leader of their alliance," he stated. Meanwhile, the opposition parties have stated that a leader for the united platform will be decided at a later stage.

The minister's remarks comes a day after the senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad mocked the opposition meet, stating: "Who will be their (opposition) PM face?... There is friction between them. This is an alliance of selfish people for power. Since they can't take on PM Modi alone, they are trying to do it together...India wants a fixed govt not a bunch of people who keep fighting with each other."

The mega opposition meeting will be held on June 23 in Patna with participation of galaxy of opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Earlier this month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had predicted that the Lok Sabha elections would be held earlier than planned, claiming that the ruling BJP is concerned about his attempts to unify the Opposition.

“What I said was in jest, but the possibility cannot be ruled out. The current dispensation may feel that if our opposition unity bid gathered momentum, it would inflict on them bigger losses. So they could take recourse to early polls,” the Bihar Chief Minister stated.

Top leaders from various parties are scheduled to attend the upcoming meeting, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, MK Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti.
