Punjab Election 2022: PM Modi, Kejriwal Both Emerged From RSS, Says Priyanka Gandhi In Pathankot

Priyanka Gandhi also took on the prime minister on the issue of farmers' protest and said that PM Modi not even once visited the agitating farmers.

New Delhi: With just three days left for Punjab election, criticisms among political parties are getting shriller. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has once again hit out at her closest rivals Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal.

While addressing a rally in Punjab's Pathankot on Thursday, Priyanka Gandhi called PM Modi and Kejriwal "bade miyan, chhote miyan" and said that "both have emerged from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)".

She also took on the prime minister on the issue of farmers' protest and said that PM Modi not even once visited the agitating farmers or cleared their outstanding sugarcane bills. The Lakhimpuri Kheri incident of Uttar Pradesh in which four farmers had died was also brought up during the rally by the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

"He didn't pay the outstanding amount of Rs 14,000 crores of sugarcane farmers. Not even once did he meet the agitating farmers. Instead, son of his Minister mowed down six farmers with his vehicle," said Priyanka as reported by news agency ANI.

"Prime Minister (PM) came to Pathankot yesterday for polls but he couldn't travel 5-6 km from his residence to meet the farmers. He made the farmers agitate for 1 year," she further added.

Election to the 117-member Punjab assembly will be held on February 20. Polling in the state was scheduled for February 14 but after demand from almost every key political parties on account of Guru Ravidas Jayanti on February 16,  the Election Commission changed the date. Counting of votes is scheduled to be held on March 10.
