In the latest development regarding the search operation to locate persons trapped inside the partially collapsed Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana, the rescue teams have found another body inside the tunnel, in the early morning hours today.

According to the rescue team, the body is stuck, and the teams are currently working to retrieve it.

About Telangana Tunnel Collapse

Eight personnel working on the SLBC tunnel project were trapped after a portion of the tunnel collapsed on February 22.

The trapped persons have been identified as Manoj Kumar (UP), Sri Niwas (UP), Sunny Singh (J&K), Gurpreet Singh (Punjab) and Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu and Anuj Sahau, all from Jharkhand.

Of the eight, two are engineers, two are operators and the remaining four are labourers from Jharkhand.  The two engineers and four labourers are working for Jaiprakash Associates, the contracting firm of SLBC tunnel project.

Rescue personnel from state-run miner Singareni Collieries along with rat miners have been carrying out excavation at the points which have been identified as possible sites of the missing persons.

The Kerala police's Human Remains Detection Dogs (HRDD) were also taken inside the tunnel to these points on Thursday, while robots of a Hyderabad-based robotics company were also on the job.

The robots can access "dangerous places" (inside the tunnel), which humans cannot reach and can operate with 15 times greater efficiency, official sources have said.

The search operation was going on round the clock, including de-watering. Teams from Army, NDRF, SDRF, HRDD, Singareni Collieries, the robotics company and others have been actively involved in the mission.
