Preneet Kaur, Wife Of Ex-Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Joins BJP Ahead Of Polls
Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, has joined the BJP.
Former Union Minister and suspended Congress MP from Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday joined the BJP and hailed the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
She said, "I will work for my constituency, my state and the country under the leadership of PM Modi. I had a good innings with the Congress party and I hope I'll have a better innings with the BJP." When asked if they would contest the Lok Sabha polls, she said, "That depends on the BJP."
The four-time MP joined the saffron party in the presence of senior leaders at the BJP headquarters. In February last year, Kaur was suspended by the Congress after her husband Amarinder Singh joined the BJP. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring had accused her of indulging in anti-party activities to back the BJP and sent a complaint to the party high command.
Expressing happiness over joining the saffron forces, Kaur praised the leadership of PM Modi and thanked party president JP Nadda along with the "entire BJP family" for giving her an opportunity.
She added that she decided to join the BJP after observing the policies and work done by the Modi government in the last 10 years. "I am fully confident that our children's future and our country will remain secure under his (Modi's) leadership and policies," she said.
She joined the party in the presence national general secretaries Arun Singh, Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chugh and chief spokesperson Anil Baluni. The event was also attended by BJP in-charge for Punjab and former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani and BJP's Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar.
Welcoming Kaur to the party, Tawde said, "She has joined the BJP today. We welcome her," adding that "Punjab will (now) be more strong and the BJP too."
