'Started Era Of Political Instability In Maharashtra': PM Modi's Veiled Dig At Sharad Pawar

PM Modi went on to accuse the Congress of contemplating the imposition of an inheritance tax, which, he claimed, would result in the government seizing half of individuals' wealth.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a dig at NCP leader Sharad Pawar during an address, and blamed “wandering souls” for ushering in an era of political instability in Maharashtra 45 years ago. Without directly mentioning Pawar, PM Modi referred to the events of 1978, when Pawar rebelled against then Chief Minister Vasantdada Patil.

Pawar, with the backing of 40 MLAs, had then formed the Progressive Democratic Front, leading to the collapse of the Patil-led dispensation, and was at 38 sworn in as the CM on July 18, 1978. “Some wandering souls started the era of political instability in Maharashtra 45 years ago,” Modi said. “A big leader, for his personal ambition, began this game,” PTI quoted PM Modi as saying.

PM Modi recently made several remarks during a public address, stating his opposition to religion-based reservations in the country. In a scathing critique aimed at Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi referred to the Congress leader as the "Prince" of Congress, alleging that he harbours intrusive intentions toward people's personal wealth, akin to wanting to conduct an "X-ray" of their assets.

PM Modi went on to accuse the Congress of contemplating the imposition of an inheritance tax, which, he claimed, would result in the government seizing half of individuals' wealth.

Additionally, Modi told the crowd.“Those leaving the Congress say that the party is under the control of Maoists", as per a report of PTI.

"Congress ruled for 60 years but during that period, half the population of the country lacked even basic amenities", PM Modi said.

PM Modi alluded to India's remarkable transformation in the mobile phone industry during his tenure. He noted that prior to assuming office, India primarily imported mobile phones. However, over the past decade, the country has emerged as the world's second-largest exporter of mobile phones.
