Maharashtra Polls: Gunshots Fired At Shiv Sena Candidate's Car In Shrirampur, FIR Registered
The three unidentified accused arrived on two motorcycles and targeted Bhausaheb Kamble's car near Ashok Sugar Mills on the polling day.
Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: Three unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at Shiv Sena candidate Bhausaheb Kamble's car in Maharashtra's Shrirampur in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident took place on the day of the Maharashtra Assembly election.
The three accused arrived on two motorcycles and targeted Kamble's car near Ashok Sugar Mills on the polling day. However, the bullets fortunately didn't hit either Kamble or his car, a police official told news agency PTI.
Following the incident, an FIR has been registered at the Shrirampur Police in Ahilyanagar district against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint lodged by the Shiv Sena leader, the official said. "Nobody has been arrested so far and the investigation is underway," he added.
Bhausaheb Kamble has been fielded against Congress' Hemant Bhujangrao Ogale.
In another incident, the car of Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Dhananjay Badore's daughter and supporters was attacked by unidentified persons in Ulhasnagar. The leader alleged the attack was carried out by his opposition candidate, fearing defeat in the Maharashtra polls.
The incident took place a day before the polls on Tuesday at 2 AM when Badore's daughter Jayashree received information about money distribution from a car to lure voters in the state. Subsequently, she along with some party supporters chased the car. She alleged that some unkown people (10-15) surrounded the car and the party supporters, Times of India reported.
Dhananjay Badore alleged that the party supporters were allegedly attacked by the mob using rods, sticks, and hockey sticks. The car's glass was damaged and a supporter even sustaimed minor injuries. His daughter and UBT supporters left the spot and registered a case against the people at the local Vithalwadi police station. An investigation has been initiated in the matter.
Maharashtra recorded a voter turnout of 58.22 per cent till 5 pm on Wednesday in the elections to the 288-member state legislative assembly. The results will be announced on November 23.
