Maharashtra Polls: MVA Reaches Consensus On 200 Seats, High Command To Decide On Disputed 20-25 Ones

The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra has agreed on 200 of 288 assembly seats for the upcoming polls.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance has reached consensus on 200 of the 288 seats for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls, said NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday.

"I am not directly involved in the seat-sharing discussions. (NCP-SP state unit chief) Jayant Patil is representing our party in the talks. As per the information he shared, an understanding has been reached on approximately 200 out of the total 288 seats," he said while speaking to reporters in Satara district.

On being asked which seats in Satara district the NCP(SP) will demand, he said a decision on seat sharing will be taken by Patil.

Speaking on the crushing defeat faced Congress by Congress in Haryana, Pawar said it will not have any bearing on the elections in Maharashtra.

"We are studying Haryana (results), but at the same time look at the results of Jammu and Kashmir (polls). I do not think that it (Haryana results) will have any bearing on the state's (Maharashtra's) elections. As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, the world community gives more attention to it and its poll results are more important for the country," he said.

Meanwhile, state Congress president Nana Patole said there are 20-25 assembly seats on which the MVA constituents are having competing claims. The list of such seats will be sent to each party's high command for resolution.

"Talks (on seat allocation) have been positive. There are issues about 20 to 25 seats (on which there was no consensus). We are making a list and sending the list of candidates to (Sena UBT chief), Uddhav ji (Thackeray), (NCP SP head) Sharad Pawar ji and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge by Thursday night," he said.

"The seats that are in dispute will be sent to the high command (of each party) for clearance. Three-party high commands will discuss and decide the issue," he added.

Patole also said that the seat-sharing arrangement for all the 288 assembly seats is likely to be announced by Friday or Saturday.

The elections in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on November 20 while the votes will be counted on November 23 along with Jharkhand.
