BJP is likely to release its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections today
BJP’s first list can have the names of most of the candidates for first phase elections
First phase of General Elections 2019 will be held on April 11
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conducted its central election committee meeting in Delhi at the BJP headquarters. For the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj and other prominent leaders of the party arrived to attend the central election committee meeting. The party is likely to release its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
As the Election Commission, earlier this week, announced the dates of the much-awaited General Elections and stated that it would be conducted in seven phases across the country, BJP’s first list can have the names of most of the candidates for first phase polling. The first phase of General Elections 2019 will be held on April 11 on as many as 91 Lok Sabha seats. The election for a total of 543 parliamentary seats will go on till May 19 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.
All 42 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will go to the polls in the first phase with a fraction of constituencies in many other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam, also to witness polling on April 11. Union ministers Satya Pal Singh, V K Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Giriraj Singh and Kiren Rijiju are among those whose constituencies will go to the polls in the first phase. The BJP is likely to take a call on their candidature in today’s meet.
The Election Commission has also announced that Assembly Elections in states like Telangana and Odisha will take place simultaneously with the general elections. With PM Modi known for dropping a number of incumbents in order to beat the anti-incumbency factor, the BJP has been abuzz with speculation over the fate of its sitting MPs.
As per reports, the party leadership has also sought feedback from a number of sources, including the public and has also asked its MPs to furnish details of the works they have carried out as it finalises its candidates for the upcoming polls.
