Lok Sabha Elections Results 2024: Shashi Tharoor Leads After Hours Of Trailing In Thiruvananthapuram

The Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is leading by 9,700 votes in the seat.

Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor established a lead after hours of trailing in Thiruvananthapuram. He is facing fierce competition from Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Congress MP is leading by 9,700 votes in the seat.

Later in the day, Shashi Tharoor, Congress' leading candidate from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency on his lead said, " This is the blessing for the 4th time and I will do my best to be worthy of that trust to serve them well. The world T20 is going on but super over was here...BJP put up an enormous fight...One important message of Suresh Gopi in Thrissur is that his systematic outreach to minority communities. It is a very strong message to BJP that communal campaign won't go very far in Kerala..."

Former UN diplomat and three-time MP Shashi Tharoor is vying for re-election from Thiruvananthapuram. Renowned for his robust educational background and international experience, Tharoor clinched a hat-trick victory in 2019 with a staggering 416,131 votes. This time around, he is up against a formidable opponent in BJP's Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a minister in the outgoing Narendra Modi government.

The electoral face-off holds significance as it marks a notable battle between two members of the Nair community, the second-largest Hindu group in Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram, once a Communist Party stronghold, has been a Congress bastion since the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. With a total electorate of 14,03,281, including 7,27,469 women, 6,75,771 men, and 41 transgenders, the city holds significant political sway in Kerala.

As the most populous city in the state, Thiruvananthapuram has witnessed a dynamic political landscape over the years, with representation from various parties. Traditionally, the political contest in Kerala has primarily been between the INC and the CPI(M). However, there has been a noticeable surge in efforts by the saffron party to establish a foothold in the state.
