Congress on Wednesday released its eight list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress list includes candidates fielded in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh which will go to polls starting April 19. In Jharkhand, the Congress has named Kalicharan Munda from Khunti, Sukhdeo Bhagat from Lohardaga and Jai Prakashbhai Patel from Hazaribagh.

The announcement of eighth list comes hours after top Congress leaders met in Delhi to hold discussions on party's Lok Sabha election candidates in UP, Telangana, Goa and Jharkhand.

The meeting saw the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, KC Venugopal and the members of its Central Election Committee including senior leaders Ambika Soni, Madhusudan Mistry, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Salman Khurshid.

In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party, party MP from Punjab's Jalandhar Sushil Kumar Rinku and MLA in the state Sheetal Angural joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi on Wednesday.

Rinku, the MP from Jalandhar in Punjab, and Angural, who was elected to the state Assembly from Jalandhar West, joined the saffron party in the presence of Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and its national general secretary Vinod Tawde.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have been named as star campaigners of the party among 40 others for Madhya Pradesh which will vote in four phases in upcoming general elections. Polling for the 29 constituencies is scheduled to be held in the first four phases starting April 19.

Former chief ministers Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, respectively, also figure on the list. The list names eight legislators, including Madhya Pradesh leader of the opposition Umang Singhar. Rajya Sabha members Ashok Singh and Vivek Tankha are also named.
