PM Modi In Bengal Today Amid Sandeshkhali Row, To Unveil Country's First Underwater Metro Route

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kolkata Barasat in West Bengal and will later reach Bihar's Bettiah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal today where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate developmental projects worth Rs 15,400 crore in the state capital, Kolkata. He will inaugurate the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor which will be India's first underwater metro service.

Union Raliway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will also remain present during the event which is scheduled to take place at around 10:30 am. 

After his Kolkata programme, Modi will visit Barasat in North 24 Parganas, near Sandeshkhali which witnesses a series of violence and protests against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan who has been alleged for land grab and sexual harrasment. 

PM Modi will reach Barasat at around 11:30 where he will address a women's rally. 

PM Modi To Inaugurate Slew Of Metro Projects

In Kolkata, Modi will inaugurate a slew of metro projects via video conferencing in various parts of the country. To boost the public mobility in Kolkata, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Kolkata Metro's Howrah Maidan- Esplanade Metro section, Kavi Subhash - Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section, Taratala - Majerhat Metro section (part of Joka- Esplanade line). 

He will also flag off train services on Pune Metro from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch; Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station; Agra Metro's stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar; and Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor. 

During the event, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for extension project of Pune Metro Rail phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro-Nigdi.

PM Modi's Bettiah Visit 

After his Kolkata visit, PM Modi will visit Bihar's Bettiah in West Champaran district where he will launch developmental projects worth Rs 8,700 crore related to rail, road, petroleum, and natural gas sectors. He will inaugurate the 109-kilometre long Muzaffarpur-Motihari LPG pipeline of the Indian Oil which will provide clean fuel for cooking in the state of Bihar and neighboring country Nepal.

This new pipeline terminal will also act as a strategic supply point for export of petroleum products to Nepal which will benefit 8 districts of North Bihar: East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, and Madhubani.

He will also dedicate to the nation Indian Oil's LPG bottling plant and storage terminal in Motihari. The new bottling plant will help in streamlining the supply chain in the markets connected to the Motihari plant.
