Lok Sabha Polls Phase 2: Rahul Gandhi, Hema Malini, Shekhawat, Baghel Among Prominent Candidates

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 2 will witness prominent candidates such as Rahul Gandhi, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Bhupesh Baghel, Hema Malini, Arun Govil, Gajendra Shekhawat and more vying for victory.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2 Key Candidates: In the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Phase 2  polling will see prominent candidates vying for victory across various states in India. According to the schedule by the Election Commission of India, the second phase of polling is slated to commence on April 26, 2024, encompassing several states including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Jammu and Kashmir.

LS Phase 2 Key Candidates: Rahul Gandhi, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Shashi Tharoor Gajendra Shekhawat Among Prominent Candidates

Kerala: 

  • Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is seeking re-election from Kerala's Wayanad constituency. His contenders include BJP's K Surendran and CPI's Annie Raja.

  • Union Minister and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar is challenging three-time MP Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram.

  • Popular Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi is contesting from the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket against Congress' K Muraleedharan and CPI's V S Sunil Kumar.

  •  All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K C Venugopal is contesting to regain Alappuzha seat lost to CPI(M)’s A M Ariff in the 2019 polls.

    The 61-year-old senior Congress leader has not lost any major election so far as he won the Alappuzha Assembly seat thrice in 1996, 2001, and 2006 and successfully became a Lok Sabha member from Alappuzha in 2009 and 2014. In 2019, he was not fielded from the seat after elevation to the post of the AICC general secretary (organisation).

Karnataka: 

  • JD(S) state president and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy is the NDA alliance candidate from Mandya, facing Congress' Venkataramane Gowda.

  • DK Suresh of Congress is seeking re-election from Bangalore Rural, contested by BJP-JD(S) combine's C N Manjunath. The 57-year-old Congress leader is the younger brother of Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress chief D K Shivakumar. He was the only Congress candidate to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka.

  •  BJP Yuva Morcha national President and sitting MP Tejasvi Surya has been renominated in Bangalore South and faces Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy.

Chhattisgarh:

  • Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel is contesting from the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat. He faces a tough battle against BJP’s Santosh Pandey whi is vying for re-election from this constituency.

Maharashtra:

  • Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Yashwant Ambedkar is contesting from Akola against BJP's Anup Sanjay Dhotre and Congress' Abhay Kashinath Patil.

  • Actor-turned-Independent MP Navneet Kaur Rana, now with BJP, is contesting from Amravati against Balwant Baswant Wankhade.

Uttar Pradesh: 

  • BJP MP Hema Malini is contesting for the third consecutive time from Mathura, facing Congress' Mukesh Dhangar and BSP's Suresh Singh.

  • Veteran actor Arun Govil is the BJP candidate from Meerut-Hapur, competing against Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance's Atul Pradhan. Govil replaced BJP's three-term MP Rajendra Agarwal as a candidate on this seat.

  • Danish Ali is contesting from Amroha, his current Lok Sabha seat as a Congress candidate following his suspension from the BSP.

Rajasthan: 

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was renominated from Kota-Bundi and faces former MLA Prahlad Gunjal on this seat.

  • Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is the BJP candidate from Jodhpur, contesting against Congress' Karan Singh Uchiyarda.

  • Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, is contesting from Jalore against BJP's Lumbaram Chaudhary.

  • Veteran Congress leader C.P. Joshi is contesting from Bhilwara against BJP's Damodar Agarwal.

  • Congress candidate Tarachand Meena, former IAS officer and close aide of former CM Ashok Gehlot, is contesting in Udaipur. He is facing BJP's Mannalal Ravat

West Bengal: 

  • West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar is contesting from Balurghat against Trinamool Congress' Biplab Mitra.

Bihar: 

  • Veteran Bihar leader Pappu Yadav is fighting from the Purnia as an independent candidate, promoting a three-way contest between him, JD(U), and RJD. He recently joined Congress but is contesting independently due to the denial of a ticket. Yadav, a five-time former MP, has a significant political history in the region.
