Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Results 2024: Will Mahua Moitra Retain TMC Seat? BJP's Amrita Roy Leading In Early Trends

Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Results: A closely watched constituency in West Bengal, Krishnanagar is seeing a contest between Mahua Moitra (TMC), Amrita Roy (BJP), and SM Saadi (I.N.D.I.A).

Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Results 2024: The Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal is one of the most watched seats. The constituency was established in 1967, during the fourth Lok Sabha elections. Firebrand Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra is contesting from this seat, against Amrita Roy of the BJP and SM Saadi of the CPI(M) who is representing the I.N.D.I.A bloc.

In the early trends, BJP debutante Amrita Roy, the 'Rajmata' of Krishnanagar royal family, is leading from the seat.

ABP-CVoter and other exit poll results for West Bengal, which has 42 Lok Sabha constituencies, showed that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) may increase its tally to 26-31 seats — from 18 seats in 2019. All eyes are on the result to see if the BJP really goes past the ruling TMC, a dominant political force in Bengal.

According to the ABP-CVoter exit polls, the INDIA parties could secure 1-3 seats. The BJP is expected to receive 42.5% of the votes, TMC 41.5%.

Krishnanagar went to polls on May 13, in the fourth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

Seven Vidhan Sabha constituencies — Palashipara, Tehatta, Kaliganj, Chapra, Nakashipara, Krishnanagar Uttar and Krishnanagar Dakshin, which cover the entire Nadia district area — are part of this constituency.

Krishnanagar was in the past dominated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which won the seat nine times in the past. TMC  won the elections in 2009, 2014 and 2019. While the seat had gone to the BJP once, in 1999, the Congress has never won it.

Mahua Moitra is the sitting MP from Krishnanagar, and is eyeing a second term from the seat.

Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Results: All Eyes On Sitting MP Mahua Moitra

In the 2019 general elections, Mahua Moitra won against Kalyan Chaubey of the BJP. In 2014, the seat went to the late actor Tapas Paul.

This is an important election for Mahua Moitra, who was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP in 2023. A disciplinary committee decided to disqualify her after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that she had released confidential information from Parliament to an outsider.

BJP's Amrita Roy is the queen mother of Krishnanagar Rajbari (royal family). Roy is the direct descendent of the 18th-century Bengal king Raja Krishna Chandra Dev. She joined the BJP earlier this year, and is in the electoral fray for the first time.
