Karnataka Results: 14 Ministers Face Defeat In Assembly Polls
Govinda Karjola, a senior minister in the outgoing Basavaraj Bommai cabinet was defeated by R B Thimmapur from the Mudhola Assembly constituency
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been comprehensibly defeated by the Congress in the Karnataka Assembly election 2023. With this, the BJP will lose control of the only South Indian state it ruled. Notably, over a dozen cabinet ministers in the outgoing BJP government have lost the election.
Here is a list of ministers who have lost their seats in the election held on May 10.
- Govinda Karjola, a senior minister in the outgoing Basavaraj Bommai cabinet was defeated by R B Thimmapur from the Mudhola Assembly constituency
- B Sriramulu lost to B Nagendra of the Congress from Ballari Rural seat
- V Somanna lost to Congress stalwart Siddaramaiah from the Varuna assembly constituency
- BJP leader Somanna also lost the Chamarajanagar assembly seat to Congress leader C Puttarangshetty
- J C Madhuswamy lost to Suresh Babu from the Chikkanayakanahalli constituency
- Murugesh Nirani lost to Indian national Congress candidate J T from Bilgi
- Ujaneshwar Basavannappa Banakar of the Congress defeated BJP'S B C Patil from the Hirekeruru assembly seat
- Karnatak health minister DK Sudhakar in the outgoing BJP government lost to Congress' Pradeep Ishwar from the Chikkaballapur constituency
- MTB Nagaraj of BJP lost to Sharath Kumar Bachegowda of the congress from the Hoskote assembly seat by a margin of 3,000 votes
- BJP's Narayana Gowda was defeated by Congress' HT Manju from the K R Pet assembly seat
- Karnataka’s school education minister B C Nagesh was defeated by Congress candidate K Shadakshari in Tumkur’s Tiptur seat
- Halappa Achar lost to Basavaraj Rayareddy of the Congress from the Yelaburga assembly seat
- Shankar Munekoppa of the Bharatiya Janata Party lost to Ningaraddi Hanamaraddi Konaraddi of the Indian National Congress
- Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, a BJP leader, also lost the Sirsi seat.
Election for the Karnataka Assembly was held in single phase on May 10, while the counting was held today, May 13.
