Karnataka Polls: CM Bommai To Contest From Shiggaon, JD(S)' Kumaraswamy From Channapatna
Bommai stated that there is "pro-incumbency" in the state and that many changes have occurred in the country since the BJP-led administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared on Monday that he will run for reelection in the Assembly elections from his home town of Shiggaon in Haveri district, news agency PTI reported.
Bommai stated that there is "pro-incumbency" in the state and that many changes have occurred in the country since the BJP-led administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.
Speaking with reporters, Bommai stated: "I will contest from Shiggaon in Haveri."
He went on to say that the incumbent BJP was completely prepared for the election. "We are seeking votes based on our performance," he stated.
The Chief Minister lashed out at the Congress, saying widespread corruption and instability in the country during the UPA's tenure, which harmed the country's economy.
Since July 2021, Bommai has served as the state's Chief Minister.
JD(S) Leader Kumaraswamy To File Nomination From Channapatna On April 19
JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said on Monday that he will file his candidature as a contender from the Channapatna constituency on April 19, for the Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 10, news agency PTI reported.
On April 17, his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy would file his papers as the party's candidate from neighbouring Ramanagara, he claimed.
Kumaraswamy currently represents Channapatna in the Assembly, while his wife and Nikhil's mother Anitha Kumaraswamy represents Ramanagara.
Nikhil, an actor-turned-politician and the president of the JD(S) party's youth wing, lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election in Mandya against BJP-backed independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh, another actor-turned-politician.
In December, the JD(S) released their initial list of 93 candidates.
Kumaraswamy stated that he and JD(S) state president C M Ibrahim will meet this evening and, if feasible, unveil the second list of candidates.
"For 40-50 constituencies candidates list is ready, it will be cleared. The third list may take four to five days," he was quoted by PTI in its report.
