Congress Lodges Complaint With EC Regarding 20 Haryana Seats, Khera Says, 'Their Reaction Was...'

Congress leader Pawan Khera said that the party raised complaints regarding 20 assembly seats and complaints will be raised from 13 more constituencies will be submitted to the poll body.

The Congress on Wednesday said that the Election Commission has assured that they would look into the party's concerns over Haryana Assembly results.

Congress leader Pawan Khera said that the party raised complaints regarding 20 assembly seats and complaints will be raised from 13 more constituencies will be submitted to the poll body.

"The Election Commission has assured us that they will look into this matter and they will reply to us after consulting their returning officers from each constituency. Complaints were from 20 Assembly constituencies. We have presented the documents of the complaints to ECI. Complaints from 13 more Assembly constituencies will be submitted to ECI in the next 48 hours," Pawan Khera said.

A delegation of senior Congress leaders comprising former chief ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Gehlot and party leaders K C Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken and Pawan Khera; and Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan met with top Election Commission officials. The delegation handed over a memorandum to the officials along with specific complaints from various constituencies in Haryana.

The Congress leader also took a swipe at the Election Commission saying that the officials' reaction was "as usual a good smile and a good cup of tea."

"Their reaction as usual was a good smile and a good cup of tea but we need more. Complaints from 13 more Assembly constituencies will be submitted to ECI. There were issues regarding the batteries of the machines by our candidates. We have asked for a reply from ECI after conducting the investigation," the Congress leader said.

Congress leader and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the assembly results are surprising because everyone thought that Congress will form government in Haryana. He added that the party has many complaints and the counting of votes was delayed in several places.

"These results of Haryana are surprising because everyone thought that Congress will form the government in Haryana. Be it IB, experts, survey reports, but what happened was that when the counting of postal ballots started, Congress was leading everywhere, but when the counting of EVMs started, Congress was lagging behind. We have received many complaints. The counting of votes was delayed in several places. The Election Commission has assured us that they are looking into all the complaints," Bhupinder Hooda said.

The Congress leaders alleged that there are at least 20 such complaints, including seven in writing, from as many assembly constituencies, with many referring to EVMs functioning at 99 per cent battery capacity whereas the average EVMs were found to be operating at 60 to 70 per cent battery capacity during counting.

The party has alleged glaring discrepancies related to some EVMs in the Haryana polls and urged the EC to conduct a probe.
