Gujarat Results 2022: With Bharatiya Janata Party set to make a record with a consecutive seventh term in Gujarat, the saffron party also seems to break another record that was long held with Congress. While the BJP has been in the domination of Gujarat politics, Congress still has the record of largest vote share with former Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki who won 149 seats in the 1985 Guajrat polls.
As the counting for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly is underway, the BJP has touched the 149-seat mark in the state, as per the early trends by the Election Commission of India.
In the 2017 Assembly Elections, BJP had bagged 99 seats while in 2012, the saffron party had won 115 seats and 117 seats in 2007 polls.
The counting for Gujarat Assembly elections 2022 started at 8 am today which were held in two phases on December 1 and December 5.
As per the Election Commission, Rakesh Gunvantbhai Desai from BJP has been declared the winner from Navsari.
Gujarat Election Results 2022: The Bharatiya Janta Party workers have started celebrating the party's massive lead in early trends. The numbers at present suggest BJP is likely to retain the turf in Gujarat surpassing its winning number of 99 in the 2017 assembly polls.
Meanwhile, the Congress seems to be on the back foot in Gujarat as early trends showed a huge lead for the ruling BJP. State President Jagdish Thakor has accepted that the trend is against Congress and said, "We are ready to accept people's mandate."
While counting of postal ballots began at 8 am, counting of EVM votes began at 8.30 am, an official said. Altogether 182 counting observers and as many election officials are on duty at the counting centres, and each counting table has a micro-observer, a counting supervisor, and a counting assistant.
The elections witnessed a turnout of 64.33 per cent, around 4 per cent less than the previous Assembly polls in 2017. Of the 4.9 crore registered voters, only 3.16 crore voted in the 2022 elections.
