'Election Commission Is Biased & Partial': KT Rama Rao On Poll Body's 48-Hour Ban On KCR's Campaign

The EC should have censured KCR and given a warning but, he said adding that EC went on to ban the ex-CM for 48 hours.

A day after the Election Commission barred former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao from campaigning for 48 hours, KT Rama Rao, his son and BRS working president, on Thursday alleged that the poll body has been "extremely biased". Alleging that it was not the same case for all leaders in the country, KTR alleged that the poll panel "looked the other way" in terms of PM Modi and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy.

According to PTI, Rama Rao responding to EC's ban, said that EC took action while ex-CM was talking on farmers and weavers on that day with a small emotional outburst. The EC should have censured KCR and given a warning but, he said adding that EC went on to ban him for 48 hours.

KTR alleged that PM Modi even "goes about to the extent of disturbing the social harmony by saying very, very strange things against the Muslims having more children". However, he claimed that not even a single notice was served to him despite complaints from the citizens to the EC.

"So, this makes me believe that the Election Commission is extremely biased and extremely partial. If they are independent, if they are really autonomous, then they should exercise their autonomy and ensure that the chief ministers and the prime minister are also shown their place," Rama Rao told PTI.

He said that the BRS had filed several complaints with Telangana's election officials against Revanth Reddy, "who has been a foul-mouthed chief minister with his outbursts and abuses," but that he had not received a single notice.

Earlier, the EC barred Chandrasekhar Rao from campaigning for 48 hours for his "objectionable" remarks against the Congress. Telangana is set to vote for Lok Sabha Elections on May 13.
