ECI Issues Show Cause Notice To Delhi BJP After AAP’s Complaint Over Posts Against Kejriwal
The ECI issued a show cause notice to Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva over a complaint from AAP on a post targeting Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva over a complaint from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on his alleged statements and social media posts against Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP filed a formal complaint with the ECI on Monday, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing inappropriate content on social media platforms to tarnish the reputation of its convener and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.
After formally registering the complaint on Monday, Raghav Chadha, a senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, emphasised, "The BJP is using substandard and absurd content while trying to spoil the image of our party and leader Arvind Kejriwal. They are attempting his character assassination", as quoted by PTI.
Chadha emphasised the importance of maintaining dignity in politics and public life. He stated, "Politics and public life require some level of dignity, and if any party violates it, the same reflects the 'sansakar' [values] of the party." Criticising the BJP's approach, Chadha urged the party to engage in political battles through elections rather than resorting to character assassination and personal attacks on Kejriwal and his family.
The AAP specifically objected to a post dated November 5, expressing the party's strong disapproval.
EC Notice To AAP Over Posts Targeting PM Modi
Last week, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Kejriwal following alleged derogatory remarks made by AAP against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its social media platform.
The commission instructed Kejriwal to respond to the charge of violating the poll code by November 16. Subsequently, on the following day, Raghav Chadha accused the BJP of orchestrating a derogatory and misleading campaign on social media against Kejriwal, announcing AAP's intention to file a complaint with the Election Commission.
