Delhi Elections: CM Atishi Gets A New Contender In Kalkaji As Another 'AAP Candidate' Files Nomination
Delhi CM Atishi has got a new contender in Kalkaji as a woman named Rekha has filed her nomination as AAP candidate for the upcoming Assembly polls in the city.
In an unexpected development for the Aam Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Delhi elections, another woman named Rekha has filed her nomination from the Kalkaji Assembly seat in the city on an AAP ticket. This would mean that apart from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, another AAP candidate would be contesting the same seat.
This comes as the incumbent Delhi CM submitted her nominatIon for the Kalkaji Assembly constituency at the District Election Office on Tuesday, January 14. Atishi is pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress leader Alka Lamba. However, with today's development, there will be another AAP candidate contesting the Delhi polls from the Kalkaji seat.
"On the occasion of Makar Sankranti today, I have filed my nomination and I hope that, just as I have received love from the people of Kalkaji before, I will continue to receive the same in the future," Atishi, who previously defeated BJP candidate Dharambir Singh in Kalkaji by a vote margin of over 10 per cent, said after filing her papers.

According to the Election Commission of India's website, Rekha is a resident of Kalkaji and filed her nomination on January 14 from the Kalkaji seat. The details on the website clearly mention that she has filed for nomination on an AAP ticket.
Atishi became the Chief Minister of Delhi after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal tendered his resignation after being granted bail in the excise police case. Kejriwal has said that he would return to the post only when the people of Delhi vote the AAP to power for the third time. She took oath on September 22, becoming the third woman CM of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
Voting in the Delhi Assembly polls will take place on February 5, and counting will be done on February 8.
