Delhi CM Atishi Defeats BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri In Kalkaji Seat

Atishi was contesting against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress's Alka Lamba.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi won the assembly elections from the Kalkaji seat. She was contesting against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress's Alka Lamba.

Latest counting trends showed the saffron party returning to power in the national capital after more than 26 years with a decisive mandate. Supporters danced to the beats of 'dhol' and waved party flags, creating a festive atmosphere.

BJP is poised to form a government in Delhi after 26 years, with the latest EC trends showing the BJP ahead in 43 of Delhi's 70 seats and AAP in 16.

Atishi on Saturday acknowledged the Delhi election loss and said the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to work for Delhi and "against the BJP's hooliganism".

"I thank the people of Kalkaji for showing trust in me. I congratulate my team who worked against 'baahubal'. We accept the people's mandate. I have won but it's not a time to celebrate but continue the 'war' against the BJP," she said.

Atishi bagged a last-minute win on the Kalkaji seat by a narrow margin of just over 3,500 votes. BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri, who was among the CM probables, lost to Atishi. The Kalkaji election campaign saw an intense fight with Ramesh Bidhuri making personal remarks against Atishi.

At one point, Atishi broke down at a press conference over a remark made on her surname by Bidhuri.
