Congress to move EC against Yeddyurappa's 'threatening' statement for public

Yeddyurappa asked his party supporters to tie the hands and feet of non-voters and make them vote.

New Delhi: BJP’s CM candidate in upcoming Karnataka elections BS Yeddyurappa has triggered controversy by his statement while campaigning in Belgavi. Yeddyurappa asked his party supporters to tie the hands of non-voters and make them vote. He said: “If you feel that somebody does not want to vote, then go to their house, tie their hands-feet, bring them to polling booths and make them cast their votes.” He said: “make them cast their votes in favour of Mahantesh Doddagoudar for Kittur seat”. Yeddyurappa was in Belgavi to campaign for Mahantesh Doddagoudar from Kittur seat. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said to approach Election Commission for the “threatening” statement by the BJP CM Candidate. He said that the statement reflects the mentality of BJP people- ‘the mentality of violence, and mentality of coercion’. He said: “let me also tell you that it is a clear violation of model code of conduct. Let me add, it may be well beyond that. It would be an electoral offence, it may well be a criminal offence.” Watch ABP News' report
