'Congress Made To Lose In Haryana': Party On Haryana Loss, Says Complaints Submitted To Returning Officers

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that the party was made to lose in the Haryana Assembly elections. He added that the complaints filed by party candidates would be submitted to the EC soon.

Haryana Election Results: Following Congress's unprecedented setback in the Haryana Assembly elections, the party voiced strong disagreement with the poll outcome and said that the "chapter on Haryana will continue as it is not complete". Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Jairam Ramesh addressed a press conference after the results showed a clear win for the Bharatiya Janata Party for the third time in a row. Congress called the results a "defeat of democracy" and that the party cannot accept it.

Congress said that complaints filed by candidates were being collected and would be submitted to the Election Commission in the upcoming days.

"If it is said in one line, this is the victory of the system and the defeat of democracy. We cannot accept this...We are collecting complaints. Our candidates have given complaints to the returning officers there and are still giving them. In the coming days, we will soon go to the Election Commission with all these complaints and register our complaint there," Congress leader Pawan Khera said.

He further said that the results were "unexpected and unacceptable" and were different from what was projected on the ground. "This kind of result was not visible anywhere on the ground. No one can believe that such an unexpected result will come in Haryana. We are all surprised," he added.

The Congress leader mentioned that the party candidates from across the state were complaining about malfunctioning of machines.

"The results are totally unexpected and we would even say that they are unacceptable. The kind of complaints that are continuously coming in. There are continuous complaints about our candidate from three districts, Hisar, Mahendragarh and Panipat. Complaints are continuously coming about how some batteries of machines that were 99% showed us losing and in the machines which were not touched, whose batteries were 60-70% shows our candidate winning," Khera said.

'Congress Made To Lose In Haryana': Jairam Ramesh

Congress communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh alleged that "Congress has been made to lose in Haryana".

He alleged that the machines were replaced and that the party will consolidate the complaints and submit them to the EC within the next two days. The Congress leader said that the party did not lose but was made to lose.

He further claimed that the efforts were being carried out till October 7, a day before the results, to ensure that the Congress-National Conference alliance does not attain majority in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The chapter on Haryana is not complete, it will continue. The chapter in Jammu and Kashmir, of course, there will be a coalition government. And as I said till yesterday, various attempts were being made to ensure that the majority will not come to the Congress-NC coalition but the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given a very clear mandate for this coalition government," Jairam Ramesh said.
