'Chowkidar Narendra Modi': PM changes name on Twitter ahead of Lok Sabha polls, top BJP leaders follow
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed his name on Twitter to 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi' ahead of General Elections.
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed his name on Twitter to 'Chowkidar Narendra Modi' ahead of General Elections. This comes a day after he launched the "Main Bhi Chowkidar (I am a watchman too)" campaign on social media just a month ahead of the national elections. Following the leader, BJP president Amit Shah also changed his name on Twitter to 'Chowkidar Amit Shah', and the trend of adding a prefix on Twitter took off from then.
Several other top leaders, including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, JP Nadda, Harsh Vardhan and Dharmendra Pradhan have also changed their names on their respective Twitter accounts.
"The one who made cleanliness a moral value... he is called Chowkidar #MainBhiChowkidar. Say with all your heart #ChowkidarPhirSe (watchman again)," Amit Shah tweeted after senior BJP leaders changed their names.
On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) '#MainBhiChowkidar' campaign became a top worldwide trend on the micro-blogging site which happened within hours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching it. PM yesterday urged his supporters to take the 'main bhai chowkidar' (I too am watchman) pledge, saying he is not alone in the fight against graft and social evils. "Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar," he wrote on Twitter.जिसने बनाया स्वच्छता को संस्कार...वो है चौकीदार। #MainBhiChowkidar

He also posted a little over three minute video to drive home his message. Modi has often described himself as a "chowkidar" who would neither allow corruption nor get corrupted himself. Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been repeatedly hurling the "chowkidar chor hai"(watchman is the thief) jibe at Modi to claim irregularities and favouritism in the Rafale fighter jet deal, a charge the BJP-led government has rejected.Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation.
