The polling for 90-member Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly underwent polling in two phases. The first phase of polling took place on November 7 and the second phase of polling was held on November 17.
In the first phase, voting was held on 20 seats in 12 districts under Bastar division the most Naxal-infested region in the state. The first phase recorded a voter turnout of 78 per cent.
The remaining 70 constituencies underwent polling in the second phase that saw a footfall of 68.15 per cent voters and included important candidates in the fray — Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo along with several other leaders from Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to the ABP News-CVoter Opinion Poll, the Congress is facing opposition from 48.5% of the voters, who are 'angry and want to change the government'. However, 44.8% of voters say they are "not angry and do not want to change the government".
The projections for vote share and seats have also given an edge to Baghel. The projected vote share for Congress is 44.8% and the party is likely to win 45 to 51 seats. BJP closely trailed the Congress with a projected vote share of 42.7% expecting to win 36 to 42 seats, according to the survey.
The campaigning for Chhattisgarh was a heated one with the BJP and the Congress's partner in the I.N.D.I.A bloc, the AAP, targetting the Grand Old Party with corruption allegations. The campaigning reached a peak when the Enforcement Directorate began a probe in the Mahadev App case, linking the Rs 508 crore scam to CM Bhupesh Baghel. The BJP seized the opportunity to try and corner the Baghel government.
