Not 'Loktantra Bachao' But 'Parivar Bachao’: BJP As Top Oppn Leaders Gather At Delhi's Ramlila Maidan

BJP's Trivedi noted that Ramlila ground, historically associated with the "India against corruption" movement led by Anna Hazare, "is now hosting a rally seemingly endorsing corruption".

As the Delhi rally organised by the opposition parties is gaining momentum with top leaders arriving at Ramlila Maidan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday strongly criticised the gathering, dismissing it not as a "save democracy" rally as claimed, but rather as a "save family" and "hide corruption" event.

In an interaction with news agency PTI, Sudhanshu Trivedi, spokesperson for the BJP, pointed to a slew of corruption cases involving leaders from various parties, including the Congress, DMK, and the RJD. Trivedi said, "These allegations primarily pertain to the pre-2014 period, countering accusations by the opposition that the Modi government is pursuing them in graft probes out of political vendetta".

Trivedi noted that Ramlila ground, historically associated with the "India against corruption" movement led by Anna Hazare, "is now hosting a rally seemingly endorsing corruption".

Highlighting the irony of leaders who were previously labelled as corrupt now joining forces, Trivedi, particularly referring to the Aam Aadmi Party and its collaboration with other opposition parties, said, "Their leader is Lalu Prasad Yadav now, who has been convicted of various corruption charges. They are all here to hide their old sins, and it should be noted that they were against the construction of the Ram temple, and some of them called for the eradication of Hinduism".

"These parties represent the crisis of credibility in Indian politics, whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP represents the politics of credibility and a track record of keeping promises," he added further.

In a thinly veiled swipe at the opposition, Trivedi remarked "They claim to have come together to save democracy, but they are themselves dynastic organisations, never allowing others to rise".

Trivedi concluded by asserting that the electorate would deliver a resounding response to these parties in the upcoming polls.
