MPs Who Won Assembly Polls To Resign From Parliament Soon: Sources

Nine BJP MPs were defeated, while 12 were elected. The Congress Party also ran MPs A Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, both of whom were elected in Telangana.

Several of the MPs who have won the assembly elections will be resigning from parliament shortly, sources informed ABP News. In the assembly elections, the BJP fielded 21 MPs, including Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel, and Faggan Singh Kulaste – seven each in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, four in Chhattisgarh, and three in Telangana.

Nine BJP MPs were defeated, while 12 were elected. Out of which, a total of 4 BJP MPs have been elected as MLAs in Rajasthan. The Congress Party also ran MPs A Revanth Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, both of whom were elected in Telangana.

Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, and Renuka Singh have won elections, as have BJP MPs Baba Balaknath, Diya Kumari, Kirori Lal Meena (Rajya Sabha member), and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Hanuman Beniwal, the RLP's lone Lok Sabha member, also won in Rajasthan. Faggan Singh Kulaste, another Union minister, was defeated in the assembly elections. BJP MPs Ganesh Singh and Bhagirath Choudhary were among those who lost.

MPs who win assembly elections must resign from one of their seats within 14 days. Referencing the president's Prevention of Simultaneous Membership Rule issued in 1950 under Article 101 of the constitution, Constitution expert and former Lok Sabha secretary general P D T Achari said: "If they don't, on expiry of 14 days, they will lose their membership of Parliament. However, they can continue as member of the state legislative assembly," news agency PTI reported.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won resounding victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, strengthening its hold on the Hindi heartland ahead of the key 2024 Lok Sabha Election. The Congress, on the other hand, found a silver lining in the defeat of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in Telangana, culminating in a 3-1 victory for the BJP in the most recent round of Assembly elections.
