Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Launches Malaviya Mission - Teachers Training Programme

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also launched the registration portal for the Malaviya Mission Teachers Training Programme - mmc.ugc.ac.in.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched  the union government’s ‘Malaviya Mission’: Teachers Training Programme on September 5, 2023, at the Kailash Bhawan in New Delhi. Organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in collaboration with the Union Education Ministry, the programme will be held for two weeks in which teachers from across the country will be given specialized training. To allow and facilitate easy participation of teachers in the programme, the UGC has also started a dedicated portal - mmc.ugc.ac.in, where teachers would be able to register for the programme The portal was also inaugurated by the union minister at the launch event of the teachers training programme today. 

Besides launching the new teachers training programme, Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan also announced that the human resource development centre will now be called Madan Mohan Malaviya teachers’ training centres. At the launch event of the programme, Pradhan also stressed upon enriching the quality of education by bolstering the skill set of teachers and teaching methodologies. He further stated that the programme would help the upskilling of over 15 lakh teachers in various HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) across the country in a phased manner through the establishment of 111 Malaviya Mission Centres across the country.

Aimed at enhancing capacity building in educators in higher education institutions, and in line with the NEP 2020, UGC’s new online teachers training programme will be focussed on various themes of capacity building in teachers including holistic and multidisciplinary education, Indian knowledge systems (IKS), academic leadership, governance and management, higher education and society, research and development, skill development, student diversity and inclusive education, and information and communication technology.

UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, who was also present, also stressed upon the importance of teachers in the comprehensive development and evolution of children over the years. He further underlined that the UGC’s new teachers training programme shall help teachers explore  innovative and modern teaching methodologies and high-level institutional facilities across various dimensions of higher education.
