New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) which makes all the decisions regarding higher education released the revised guidelines for examinations. It is mandatory for final year students to appear for their papers, but if a student is unable to appear for the exam for whatever reason they can appear for special examinations, but this is only valid for the 2019-2020 batch. Some final year students feel, that the exams should be cancelled as the pandemic is continuing and the COVID-19 cases are rising. Students take an example of IIT and question why the same can’t be done for other universities as well as they feel that compulsory appearance put their lives at stake. Voicing these opinions on Twitter, the hashtag #StudentsLifeMatter is trending, which is spin-off of #BlackLivesMatter. Earlier the panel set up by the UGC and headed by Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad, had recommended cancelling the exams in view of rising Coronavirus cases.
