TMC To Propose Resolutions On NEET Irregularities In Upcoming Bengal Assembly Session

The resolutions will address alleged irregularities in the NEET medical entrance exam and the perceived rushed implementation of new criminal laws.

Kolkata: The TMC is expected to introduce two resolutions during the upcoming West Bengal assembly session, which begins on July 22, according to a party leader. The resolutions will address alleged irregularities in the NEET medical entrance exam and the perceived rushed implementation of new criminal laws, as reported by news agency PTI.

West Bengal Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay stated that the assembly session is set to last ten days.

"Currently, it is most likely that two resolutions will be tabled—one concerning the NEET controversy and the other on the hurried implementation of the three new criminal laws," a senior TMC MLA said.

The minister, however, declined to specify which bills or resolutions will be presented during the session.

"The Speaker has announced that the session, commencing on July 22, will continue for ten days. The business advisory (BA) committee and an all-party meeting will later decide whether to extend the session's duration," the minister told PTI.

The three new criminal laws, which came into effect on July 1, bring significant changes to India's criminal justice system. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) have replaced the British-era IPC, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, addressing current social realities and modern-day crimes.

The BJP is also considering moving a motion to discuss alleged post-poll violence and mob assaults in the state.

"We seek discussions in the assembly on incidents of post-poll violence and mob assaults," BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said.

SC Directs NTA To Publish Results Of All Candidates 

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of all students in the NEET-UG exams while maintaining the students' privacy. The matter will be taken up for arguments again on Monday. The NTA has been instructed to declare the center-wise results by Friday
