Centralized System For Admissions

In a recent notification, the West Bengal government has announced the introduction of a centralized online system for undergraduate admissions in all state-run, aided, or affiliated colleges and universities starting from the 2023-24 academic session. This new single-window platform will enable students to select their preferred colleges without the need to pay admission fees multiple times in different institutions to secure seats.

According to Principal Secretary Manish Jain's notification issued on Monday, the West Bengal State Council of Higher Education will be responsible for maintaining and operating the online admission system.  The council will have a dedicated bank account to receive and manage the admission fees. The notification further states that the council will transfer the admission fees to the respective educational institutions within one month after the completion of the admission process.

However, the notification also mentions that the Higher Education Department reserves the right to exclude certain courses or institutions from the purview of the centralized admission portal, at its discretion.

The government emphasized that the centralization of the admission system was implemented to address the challenges faced by students, who previously had to apply to multiple colleges and universities through various online portals and pay separate application fees.
