It also observed that students' health should not be compromised for online education. This direction has come from a Division Bench of Justice MM Sundresh and Justice R Hemalatha when they were hearing petitions filed by concerned parents who wanted schools to restrain holding online classes back to back for hours together or to at least regulate them. "It is well established by ophthalmologists and doctors worldwide that continuous viewing of mobile phones is hazardous to eyes, as a result of which there is every possibility of young, growing children to have impaired vision," the petitioners said. The bench stated that norms laid down by the Central government were only advisory in nature, so the state government has to come up with appropriate guidelines as soon as possible.
