Rajasthan: One Dead, 30 Children Injured As School Bus Turns Turtle In Jaisalmer

The accident took place in Rajasthan’s Jisalmer district on Wednesday when the school bus was ferrying students back home from school.

A person has been killed and as many as 30 school children have been injured as a school bus carrying children onboard overturned in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The accident took place near Pokhran town when the bus was ferrying children back to their homes after school, news agency PTI reported the local police as saying. 

"The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned," Kailash Chand, assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Sankra police station (Jaisalmer) was quoted as saying by PTI. After the incident most of the injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital, he added. He was further reported saying that parents of some injured children were taken to private hospitals by their parents. The bus driver is also injured in the accident and the injured children are from the 10-15 year age group.

Himanshu Gupta, Jodhpur collector was reported saying that 11 children were brought from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur for treatment where all of them were stated to be out of danger. However, a staffer identified as ‘Vikram Singh’ has succumbed to injuries, he further said. 

In a similar incident yesterday, a school bus collided with a passenger car on the Delhi-Meerut highway, leaving six dead. While there were no students on the school bus which was coming from the wrong direction, there were eight people in the unfortunate SUV which collided with the school bus. The SUV had left from Meerut and was heading towards Gurugram. The school bus driver has been arrested after the incident. 

"A school bus and an SUV met with an accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway at 06:00 AM today. There was a head-on collision. Six persons died and 2 are seriously injured. The dead include 2 children,” news agency ANI reported ADCP Traffic Police Ramanand Kushwaha as saying.
