The Union Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare has further extended the MBBS Internship Cut-Off Date up to August 11, 2023. This is the second time in quick succession that the MBBS internship cut-off date has been extended. Earlier, the deadline for aspirants to complete their mandatory one-year internship cut-off date was June 30. Initially though, the internship cut-off date for NEET PG was March 31.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took to twitter to announce the extension of the MBBS internship cut-off date extension. “Considering the future of more than 13,000 MBBS students across 5 States/UTs who were not eligible for NEET PG 2023 exam due to delayed internship, MoHFW has decided to extend last date of completion of internship for eligibility to 11th Aug 2023,” read a tweet from the Ministry’s official twitter handle.
Besides NEET PG 2023, the ministry has also extended the internship eligibility date for NEET MDS 2023 to June 30, 2023. “More than 3000 BDS students across States/UTs were not eligible for NEET MDS 2023 exam due to delayed internship. Notably, following the announcement of the NEET PG 2023 Exam Schedule, doctors, medical aspirants, and various medical bodies have been demanding to postpone the NEET PG 2023 Exam, and extend the MBBS internship cut-off date.
While the government has revised the MBBS internship cut-off date, medical associations and students from across the country continue to equivocally demand the postponement of the NEET PG 2023 Exam. As the latest development, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar requesting the government to postpone the NEET PG 2023 Exam to May-June 2023.
Students and medical bodies have been citing that the COVID-19 induced delays in the NEET 2022 counselling and admissions have taken a toll on the preparation of medical aspirants. Hence, with NEET 2022 stray round counselling being conducted in January, candidates won’t have ample time to prepare for NEET PG 2023, if conducted in March 2023, as scheduled.
