NEET 2020: 19-Year-Old Aspirant From Tamil Nadu Dies Of Suicide; Family Says 'Was Unable To Prepare For Exam Amid Pandemic'

Another NEET aspirant from Tamil Nadu died of suicide. The 19-year-old had earlier cleared the exams but wanted to improve his scores after not getting the required percentage for admission in medical colleges.

New Delhi: After being unable to prepare for the upcoming exams National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exams due to the pandemic, a 19-year-old student from Tamil Nadu has reportedly died of suicide. According to reports, the boy identified as Vignesh hailing from Ariyalur district had gone missing from his home on 8th September. After a frantic search for him, his body was found in a nearby well. Preliminary inquiries say that he had cleared the NEET exam in an earlier attempt and scored 1006 marks for 1200 but was not able to join any medical colleges. Coming from a poor family, he wanted to get a seat under government quota. Since he was unable to get the required percentage he wanted to improve his scores. NEET 2020: 19-Year-Old Aspirant From Tamil Nadu Dies Of Suicide; Family Says 'Was Unable To Prepare For Exam Amid Pandemic After the incident came to light, the villagers from Ariyalur held a 'road roko' protest claiming that NEET should be canceled as it is against the interest of students' from weak economic backgrounds. The Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy has announced a solarium of 7 lakh rupees and a government job for one member of the family. He has also requested students to not take any such extreme steps. Ariyalur is the same district from where Anita, a student spearheaded protest against NEET back in 2017 but died of suicide after NEET was not cancelled. This incident comes after another NEET aspirant from Tamil Nadu committed suicide after being unable to get her admit cards. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) had filed a complaint saying that a 17-year old girl from Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai district committed suicide after she did not get the admit card to appear for NEET. Note: No matter how big or small the examination, it is not worth taking away your life for it. Remember, there are always better options open to you.
