NEET, JEE Exams: Odisha CM Dials PM Modi; A Look At The States Demanding Postponement Of Exams

NEET, JEE Exam Dates: The Chief Minister of Odisha talked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the telephone, asking him to postpone the NEET and JEE exams. Several other states such as West Bengal, Delhi and Maharashtra are also opposed to the exams.

NEET and JEE Exam 2020: The calls for postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) exams have increased especially as the exam dates approach nearer. ALSO READ| NEET-JEE Exams: Three Reasons Why Students Are Demanding Postponement Of Exams | Know Here On Thursday, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik dialled the Prime Minster Narendra Modi and requested him to postpone the NEET and JEE exams. According to a report by the news agency, ANI the official statement said that, “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi over the telephone this morning and requested him for postponement of NEET and JEE in view of the Covid situation and also as many parts of our state are in the grip of the flood. So a student may face difficulties for appearing in the exam.' Several other states have opposed the exams mainly due to the worsening condition of Covid 19 cases. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged all the states to come together and move the Supreme Court for the deferment of this year's NEET and JEE exams, which have now taken the form of a national discourse amid pandemic stricken time. "This will be my request to all state governments, let us do it together, let us go to Supreme Court & postpone the exam for the time being until and unless the situation allows students to sit for exam (JEE/NEET)," said Banerjee. In a report by IANS, Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defer the exams in view of the health risks both for students. Congress also held a virtual meeting to discuss the postponement of the upcoming exams. The meeting was attended by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and V Narayanasamy in Puducherry. During the discussion, Mamata Banerjee urged all the states to come together and move the Supreme Court for the deferment of this year's NEET and JEE exams. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also suggested that states should approach the Supreme Court to stop these examinations. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed the dates and released the admit cards for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) admit cards.
