More Than 13,000 Vacancies In Central Higher Education Institutions Filled In Last 10 Months: Govt

The Education Ministry has informed the Parliament that all CHEIs have been directed to fill up the vacancies in Mission Mode.

The Ministry of Education has informed the parliament that more than 13,000 vacancies in different Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) across the country have been filled in the past ten months. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared the information in the parliament on Monday, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. “Occurring of vacancies and filling thereof is a continuous process. The vacancies arise due to retirement, resignation and additional requirements on account of enhanced student strength.” news agency PTI quoted the union minister as saying.

"Ministry of Education has directed all the CHEIs to fill up the vacancies in Mission Mode, including a special drive for reserved category posts. As on August 3, a total of 13,371 vacancies have been filled up in the CHEIs under the Mission Recruitment drive, in a period of ten months only," he was further reported as saying.

While the minister did inform about the recruitments in Central Higher Education Institutions, he did not speak on the number of existing vacancies. Earlier this year, the education ministry informed the Lok Sabha that over 14,600 faculty were lying vacant in Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs).

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha earlier in February this year, Union Minister of Education for State Subhas Sarkar informed that there were over 14, 600 faculty vacancies in HEIs under the ministry back then, as reported by PTI. The minister was further reported as saying that the ministry had directed all central higher education institutions to fill up the vacancies in a mission mode.

The institutions are taking measures to address faculty shortage in order to ensure that studies of students are not affected, "which inter-alia, include engaging research scholars, contract, re-employed, adjunct and visiting faculty", Sarkar was reported as saying.
