Lucknow: All Schools Up To Class 12 Closed Today Due To Heavy Rainfall And IMD Alert

District Magistrate of Lucknow orders the closure of all schools up to Class 12.

Due to the heavy rainfall and the alert issued by the IMD, the District Magistrate of Lucknow has announced the closure of all schools up to class 12 in the city today, September 11, 2023. "In view of the warning of heavy rain with lightning issued by the Meteorological Department and the bad weather in Lucknow for the last few hours, all the government / non-government / private schools up to class 12 of all the boards in all the urban and rural areas of Lucknow district. Today, 11.09.2023 (11th September 2023), Monday is declared a holiday. Ensure strict compliance with the said order. The authenticity of this order can be checked on the district website www.lucknow.nic.in." reads the notice.

Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, has experienced its most significant monsoon downpour of the year, with over 90 mm of rainfall within a 12-hour period. This heavy rainfall began on Sunday evening and persisted until Monday morning, resulting in widespread waterlogging on roads and causing traffic congestion at various crucial locations in the city.

According to the meteorological department, the rainfall is expected to persist until September 12. Meanwhile, the light drizzle brought a sense of relief to the residents following a sweltering week of hot weather.

As a result of the cyclonic circulation conditions, numerous districts in Uttar Pradesh are expected to receive varying degrees of rainfall today. The Meteorological Department has indicated that Etawah, Auraiya, Gonda, Kannauj, Ayodhya, and Basti should anticipate heavy to very heavy rain. Additionally, approximately 35 districts will experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

Showers are set to persist in Lucknow and the adjoining areas of Bundelkhand, with wind speeds expected to range between 20 to 25 kmp.
