ISRO Young Scientist Programme for Class 9 Students to ‘Catch Them Young’

Students who will qualify for the ISRO Young Scientist Programme 2019 will undergo experiential learning in this two-week residential programme scheduled to be held during summer vacations.

ISRO Young Scientist Programme or 'Yuva Vigyani Karyakram' aka Yuvika has been announced by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with a mission to catch the curiosity of students at a young age in space sciences. As part of the plan, ISRO intends to lend basic knowledge in Space Technology, Space  Science and Space Applications to 100 Class 9 students, from across the country. The ISRO Young Scientist Programme participants will experience how satellites are built and how the technology works. Students who will qualify for the ISRO Young Scientist Programme 2019 will undergo experiential learning in this two-week residential programme scheduled to be held during summer vacations. The programme is built around Invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions. “ISRO has launched the special programme for school children 'Yuva Vigyani Karyakram' (Young Scientist programme) to impart basic knowledge on space technology, space science and applications to the young ones to arouse their interest in space activities,” stated ISRO. The programme comes in line with the government’s “Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan” campaign. Interested parents, teachers and students must note that 3 students of Class 9 will be selected every year from each State/UT to participate in the programme covering CBSE, ICSE and State Board syllabus. The selection of candidates will be purely based on their academic performance and extracurricular activities. Though candidates from rural areas will be given special weightage in the selection process. The traveling, boarding and lodging expenses will be borne by ISRO. ISRO is expected to release the first list of students for its maiden Young Scientist Programme 2019 by end of March 2019. Stay Tuned!
