As Covid 19 Cases Soar, Here Is How Pending Board And University Exams Will Be Affected

With coronavirus cases on the rise, some major decisions were taken regarding exams. Here's all you need to know.

New Delhi: As the cases of coronavirus steadily increases in the country there has been some relief to students who have been apprehensive about exams and their personal safety. Last week some major decisions have been taken to ease the tension over pending exams. Here are some of the major developments regarding exams and what is in store for students in the coming months

• CBSE Board: After much debate, the CBSE decided to cancel the pending board exams due to the rising COVID-19 cases. The Board announced the decision on June 25 after the Supreme Court took up petitions filed by parents who were worried about the safety of the students. The Board decided to cancel Class 10 exams altogether but Class 12 students can opt to appear for the board exams. These exams will be conducted when the conditions are conducive. The CBSE came up with a new scheme for marking according to which those students who have appeared in more than three exams will be marked on the basis of an average of the best of three subjects. While those who appeared in three papers will be marked on the best of two. Similarly, those students who appeared in less than 3 papers will be marked based on practical and internal assessment.
• ICSE Board: The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board (ICSE) also cancelled the class 10 and 12 exams and results will be declared based on assessment. While initially, the Board had announced that there will be no option for students to give exams later, they have told the Supreme Court that they may consider giving the option to write an exam at a later stage to class 10 students.

• University exams: There might be a relief for University students as the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to revisit the guidelines issued for intermediate and terminal semester examination, and the academic calendar which was released in April. The minister said that the foundation for revisited guidelines shall be health and safety students, teachers, and staff. The committee appointed by the UGC which is being headed by the Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad on June 24 recommended the scrapping of final exams and the new sessions to be deferred to October.  An official announcement regarding the exams is yet to be made but some states have decided to cancel final university exams.
