Delhi University To Allow Students Participating In Republic Day To Sit For Missed Exams

DU students taking part in the Republic Day parade will be granted a "special opportunity" to appear for any exams they may have missed.

New Delhi: Delhi University students taking part in the Republic Day parade will be granted a "special opportunity" to appear for any exams they may have missed, an official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. In addition to the Republic Day parade participants, Delhi University is contemplating extending a similar concession to students who represent the university in national and international sports events, including the Olympics. The university aims to accommodate final-year students, particularly those from the NCC contingent in the Delhi group participating in the Republic Day parade on Kartavya path.

OSD Examination Ajay Arora said that this initiative ensures that these students do not face academic setbacks and can receive their degrees in a timely manner. The university is also open to considering the inclusion of first and second-year students involved in the Republic Day parade after evaluating the number of students requiring such flexibility.

“We will provide a special chance to final-year students of Delhi University who were busy with parade rehearsal and therefore couldn't appear for the examination held during the period," Arora said.

A datesheet for the same will be released soon and the exams will be held keeping in mind the schedule of students to avoid clash with any other paper, Arora said.

"We want to encourage students to learn from experiences beyond the classroom teaching. For that, it is important that they participate in such events and gain exposure. This will also help to instil a sense of nationalism in young minds," Arora said.

In the upcoming Republic Day parade, a total of 2,274 cadets, which includes participants from Delhi University representing the Delhi Contingent, are set to partake in the NCC Republic Day march past.
