New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has allowed Delhi University to conduct online open-book exams (OBE) for final-year students. According to information by ANI, the has allowed the University to proceed with certain directions including providing question paper in the mail as well as on the official portal. The exams were scheduled to begin on August 10. The decision comes after the hearing on Wednesday where the court had raised questions about the preparations for the exams. The Court had said that it seems the students are not ‘thoroughly prepared" to participate in the OBE. Students also faced several difficulties during the mock exams conducted by the University. Some students who had shifted home due to the pandemic faced problems in accessing study materials.
According to a report by IANS, the data submitted in the Court revealed that as against 1,83,376 students who had registered to participate in the OBE in the first phase, 1,86,814 students had registered themselves in the second phase. However, the total number of the students who had logged in during the first phase was 93,185 whereas only 75,593 had logged in the second phase. The total number of papers attempted by the students in the first phase was 60,181 whereas, in the second phase, the total number of papers attempted was 51,176.
"This is a clear indication that the final year students are not thoroughly prepared to participate in the online OBE that the University of Delhi has proposed to conduct," said a division bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad after comparing the data relating to the first and second phase of mock tests that were conducted by the varsity.
With this final decision, the University is likely to follow the schedule it had released last month.
