CBSE Launches Two-Year 'CBSE Reading Mission'. Know All About It

CBSE Reading Mission 2021-23: The Central Board of Secondary Education has launched "CBSE Reading Mission" for 2021-23, as part of a two-year initiative to increase the reading capacity of students.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched the 'CBSE Reading Mission' for 2021-23, in an initiative to promote reading literacy among students.

'CBSE Reading Mission' would be launched under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's perspective. Stakeholders would be able to watch a live webcast on YouTube and all other details would be available on www.cbse.gov.in.

According to a statement by CBSE, "CBSE Reading Mission" 2021-23 is a two year initiative to encourage students to read and engage actively with books. The programme will also include a webinar for teachers on the culture of reading in schools.

In a post on their official website, CBSE wrote, "CBSE is very happy to announce the launch of #CBSEReadingMission as part of a two-year initiative to promote reading literacy with the partnership of @pbstoryweaver and @csf_india."

More than 25,000 affiliated schools to get reading material

A recent official statement said that CBSE reading mission 2021-23 will encourage students to significantly improve their ability to read and understand books. As a part of the initiative, CBSE would be providing quality-reading material in both Hindi and English to more than 25,000 affiliated schools. This reading material will be suitable for students from Class 1 to Class 8.

Initiative Implemented Under NEP 2020

The initiative is being implemented as a part of the National Education Policy 2020. CBSE will also conduct educational enrichment activities that would help students build their language skills. CBSE has partnered with First Books Story Fever and Central Square Foundation to launch this mission.

Noted educationist Joseph Emanuel, Director Of Academics Rukmini Banerjee, CEO of First Education Foundation R. Sriram, Chairman of Pratham Books Anustup Nayak, Central Square Foundation, Professor Shailaja Menon, Azim Premji University, Vishal Talreja, Co-Founder, Dream a Dream will be present at the event.

The board said that "in line with the recommendations listed in NEP 2020, schools and teachers will have access to quality English and Hindi children's story books and complimentary resources for Classes 1st to 8th under this initiative. In addition, CBSE would also be elaborating CBSE reading challenge (English and Hindi).
