CBSE Board Exams 2021: Class 10, 12 Students Can Take Improvement Exam In Same Year, Check Details

As per the new rule, class 10 and 12 students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in any one subject but in case of more than two subjects, students would have to wait an entire year and appear with the next batch like earlier.

Here is good news for students of Class 10 and Class 12 students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board! Those students appearing for the CBSE examination 2021, will get a chance to appear for improvement exams and upgrade their performance in the same academic year.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a notification on March 21 on the matter stating that students will have a chance to improve their marks in only one subject in the Compartment Examination, conducted immediately after conduct of main examination.  Students can check the notification here. What should students note?

Earlier, if a student had to improve their performance in board exams, there was no option but to wait a complete year and appear in the exam with the next batch. However, the board has now given the flexibility to students to do the same within the same academic year.

This is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) which aims to make exams low-stake and offered multiple opportunities to board students to score well.

Remember, as per the new rule, class 10 and 12 students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in any one subject. For the same, students will have to appear in the compartment exams which will be held “immediately after conduct of main exams”, informed CBSE.

It is to be noted that the better of the two marks obtained in the subject will be considered for declaration of results. Candidates who will improve their performance will be issued combined mark sheets, as per the board.

However, if a student wants to improve score in more than two subjects, they will have to wait an entire year and appear with the next batch.

The CBSE circular read: “This permission will be made available to the candidates appearing in 2021 examination and if they wish to improve their performance in any one subject, they may again apply in the Compartment Examination for appearing to improve their performance.”

For those candidates looking to take a retest for more than one subject, previous rules would apply. It means they would have to wait to appear for the exams with the next batch of students.

The new rules will come into effect from the 2021 CBSE board exams, which are scheduled to begin in May.

In order to ease the stress, CBSE has reduced the syllabus for all subjects by 30 per cent this year. Other than this, the board has announced to increase the number of application-based questions in the board exams this year.
