The Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo stated that she would ask the private schools to implement this too.
New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday urged state’s Education Minister Bratya Basu to announce summer vacation in schools and colleges from May 2 due to the prevailing heatwave conditions.
“I will urge Education Minister Bratya Basu to announce May 2 as the date for the onset of summer vacations in schools, colleges and universities,” Banerjee said during an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat in Kolkata, PTI reported.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo stated that she would ask the private schools to implement this too.
Banerjee said that this move would also protect the children from chances of contracting Covid-19 if there was a surge in infections in West Bengal as was the case in some other states.
The Chief Minister said that her office has received reports of several incidents falling ill due to the scorching heat.
The Directorate of School Education, West Bengal, had earlier issued an advisory for all schools due to the rising temperatures in the state.
The schools, as per the Directorate of School Education, have been advised to shift their timings and take necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of the children.
The Directorate of School Education has advised the schools to shift all day schools and primary classes to morning sessions if needed.
The Directorate of School Education has also advised the school management to take necessary steps to combat the heat wave like condition keeping in mind the health of the students.
