Appearing For Class 10, 12 Board Exams Twice A Year Will Not Be Mandatory: Dharmendra Pradhan
Students can opt and appear for both the exams if they wish, and the higher score among both the exams shall be carried forward for further education, education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.
The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that students studying in Class 10 and Class 12 will not be mandatorily required to appear for their Board Exams twice a year. In an exclusive interview to news agency PTI, the education minister said that board students will be able to opt for the board exams based on their wish and feasibility. Talking on ‘stress’ among students, he said that the arrangement of board exams twice a year is aimed at broadening the ‘single’ board exam opportunity for students. Students can also opt for appearing in both the board exams, and will also be able to retain and carry forward the higher score earned among both the exams for pursuing further academics.
“Appearing for class 10, 12 board exams twice a year will not be mandatory for students. It will be completely optional and the main objective is to reduce their stress caused by the fear of single opportunity," Dharmendra Pradhan said. Speaking to PTI, the union minister and senior BJP leader also underlined some of the key education initiatives by the central government.
On the reconstitution of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), he underlined that the paradigm shift which the country’s education sector is embracing under the NEP 2020, it was essential to remodel the CABE to meet the requirements of the modern day education system. He further said that the objections raised by some states on the NEP are political and unacademic. “The objections raised by few states on implementation of NEP are political and not academic. I still cannot understand what is their objection about. West Bengal's alternative document is 99 pc similar to NEP," he said.
On the expansion of IIT campuses overseas and establishment of foreign universities in India, the Union Minister further said that while two IITs are already in progressive stages of setting their campuses in foreign countries, several other countries have also shown interest in setting up IITs on their soil, which the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) has been coordinating. “The guidelines for foreign universities to set up campuses in India are being deliberated upon and will be notified soon. We are going to make a paradigm shift so we will go ahead after exploring all possibilities and clearing all doubts," he added.
The education minister further underlined suicides among studnets as a serious concern and stressed upon collective efforts to keep students stress-free. "No precious lives should be lost, they are our kids. It is our collective responsibility to keep students stress-free," Dharmendra Pradhan said.
